Swing Strong Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to raise money and awareness of Parkinson’s disease through the Michael J Fox Foundation, by hosting various charitable events in the local community. The Board of Directors include Joe Munsch, Barry E Halbert, Sean S Jahr, and Lisa Crew.
Sean Jahr is our inspiration and founder.
Sean Jahr recently shot a hole in one at Tapatio Springs, but there's more to the story than first meets the eye.
Jahr has been battling Parkinson's Disease for several decades now. Jahr ran track for South Kitsap High School, Port Orchard, Wash., and then played college football at University of Montana. He was then diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease at age 38 (almost 20 years ago).
After a successful career working for a multi-billion dollar Silicon Valley software company, he moved to Austin and eventually retired.
About 15 years after the diagnosis, he purchased a boat and single handed the boat from New Jersey to Rockport, back to Florida, and then to the Bahamas over the course of two years. All the while, enjoying mountain biking and snow skiing. After traveling abroad for several years, Sean came to settle in San Antonio to care for his mother battling colon cancer.
As his PD progressed, he underwent Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery in June 2020. Two months later, he joined Tapatio Springs Resort and began playing golf most everyday with the men's group. His greatest challenge on the course, other than his golf swing, is managing his medication. In a recent visit with his neurologist, the report is his symptoms have improved with DBS adjustments and a reduction in medication.
Although he stumbles and fumbles, Jahr keeps things in perspective by maintaining close relations with friends and family all the while keeping his sense of humor. He knows his disease is not going away. He encourages anyone struggling with any disease to stay active and compassionate about things you love to do.
His latest saying is "my backup is broken."
