BOERNE LIFESTYLE AND FAVORITE DESIGN CO. MAKE HISTORIC THEIS HOUSE THEIR
NEW HOME

Ribbon cutting and grand opening scheduled for November 10

BOERNE, Texas — Boerne Lifestyle magazine and Favorite Design Co. are leasing the historic
Theis House, located at 248 South Main Street near Newton Alley in downtown Boerne. The
property will become the new offices for both businesses.

The community is invited to celebrate the opening on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 4 to 7
p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a grand-opening celebration
and an opportunity to visit the historic property.

Tara Bové, owner and publisher of Boerne Lifestyle, and Donen Kemnitz of Favorite Design Co.
selected the property because it represents a meaningful blend of Boerne’s history and the
fresh, forward-looking spirit of their businesses.

“The Theis House reflects so much of what makes Boerne special—its history, character and
strong sense of community,” said Bové. “It feels like a natural home for businesses that
celebrate our community while continuing to create something new.”

Built in 1858 by German immigrant Phillip Jacob Theis, the Theis House is one of Boerne’s
oldest surviving pioneer homes. Theis was an early Kendall County blacksmith and wheelwright
who operated his shop on the property. He was also among those who signed the 1859 petition
requesting the creation of Kendall County.

The home is especially significant because of its rare dogtrot design and palisade, or
“chink-and-daub,” construction. Willow branches were woven around cedar support posts,
packed with clay and stone, and then covered with stucco. Its hand-hewn beams, wooden pegs
and distinctive construction provide a lasting glimpse into the lives of Boerne’s early German
settlers.

Phillip and his wife, Margaretha, raised seven children in the home. Their son August later
continued the family’s blacksmithing business and raised his own family on the property. The
home was eventually restored by the Bergmann family and designated a Recorded Texas
Historic Landmark in 1984.

For Boerne Lifestyle and Favorite Design Co., the move is about more than establishing new
offices. It is an opportunity to work from a place that embodies the distinctive character,
creativity and community connections at the heart of both businesses.

“We were drawn to the contrast between the historic nature of the Theis House and the new
ideas and creative work taking place within its walls,” said Kemnitz. “We are honored to become
part of the continuing story of this remarkable property.”

The new downtown offices will provide both businesses with a distinctive and welcoming setting
in the heart of the community they serve.
