The Cibolo Nature Center’s mission is conservation of natural resources through education and stewardship. We provide programming for children, youth, adults and families while protecting vanishing natural areas.
Job Description
The Visitor Center Host manages the weekend visitor traffic and phone calls through the Visitor Center.  There is high traffic to the park on weekends, and you are “The Voice” for the CNC.  The experience a visitor receives from our Visitor Center Host makes a lasting impression.  This position reports to the Volunteer Coordinator.
* Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays as scheduled.
Skills and Experience Needed
This position requires experience in a nature center setting or willingness to learn about outdoor experiences at the CNC. This person must be able to work well with others, including volunteers. This position requires a friendly, people person, accustomed to interruptions and a busy work environment. The Visitor Center Host must have good phone and people skills. 
  1. Welcome Visitors –First priority is to make sure all visitors are greeted and welcomed to the CNC. Give visitors background information on the CNC, trails, etc.  Answer questions to the best of your ability or get contact info from visitor for staff to follow-up the following week. (Give out map of the trails, newsletter, etc.)  Donations are appreciated.
  2. Sell Upcoming CNC Programs/Memberships-It is a priority for the Saturday Host to let visitors and volunteers know about all upcoming events and programs.  Offer opportunity to support CNC through a membership.
  3. Solicit Photo Permits- Inquire with guest taking posed photography about obtaining a photo permit, process payment if needed.
  4. Suggest Volunteer Opportunities-when visiting with guests, inform them of opportunities to get involved through volunteering.  Have them fill out a clipboard volunteer form for the CNC Volunteer Coordinator to follow-up on the following week.
  5. Answer Phone- politely answer phone inquiries.  Transfer and route calls to staff voice mail if you cannot answer their questions.
  6. House Keeping – keep the Visitor Center looking nice, keep up with the restrooms during your shift, and remove trash as needed.
  7. Process Gift Shop Sales– ring up any gift shop sales per procedure.  Keep money secure.  Fill-in merchandise back stock when possible.
  8. Complete Projects as Assigned by Supervisor – check for note from supervisor for additional “projects” to complete, such as mail-outs, copies, counts, etc.
  9. Be Prepared to Give Tours of Facility as Needed-give potential CNC rental clients a tour of buildings and get their contact information to the Volunteer Coordinator for follow-up.
  10. Open and Close Facility-open and disarm Visitor Center, turn on lights, make coffee, unlock all VC doors and outside restrooms, tidy up as needed (restrooms, too).  Check VC visitor log, stock brochures and trail maps (inside and outside), feed birds.  At closing, feed fish, leave a note or communication for the Volunteer Coordinator on the events of the day, lock closet door and three exterior doors, turn off lights and lock exterior restrooms.  Check other building doors to be sure they are all secured before you leave for the day.
