Director of Development
 
Position Purpose:
 
The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, executing and directing all of Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries fundraising efforts including the major gifts program, annual operating fund, planned giving and special events to forward the mission of HCDBM. The role is also responsible for managing team members who support these efforts in a way that encourages their success, growth and development. The Director works closely with the Executive Director in all development and fund raising endeavors. 
 
Key Result Areas:
 

  1. In collaboration with the Executive Director, create, manage, implement and evaluate the fundraising strategic plan to exceed goals and forward the mission of Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries
    1. Work with the Executive Director to identify funds needed, preferred funding targets and specific approaches
    2. Based on the identified needs develop the case for raising annual operating funds to be used with Executive, Major, and Mid-level Donors and also use the case to serve as a resource for the marketing of all fundraising communications and events
    3. Create and implement a development plan that details how the organization will cultivate and solicit donors and identifies funding sources such as grants, in kind donations, events and marketing opportunities
    4. Prior to the fiscal year set goals for each master strategy (i.e., Exec. Major, etc.) and individual goals for the Executive Director, Development Director, Development Reps and each fundraising activity and each fundraising solicitation communication
    5. Maintain an awareness of fundraising actuals and targets at all times and create new and strategic approaches to adjust as necessary to ensure all goals are met
    6. Maintain a sense of ownership over all fundraising goals, efforts and activities
 
  1. Directly develop and grow relationships with existing and prospective Major Donors through community involvement and outreach, phone calls, meetings and tours in order to exceed funding goals and forward the mission of Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries
    1. Master Donor Perfect and use this tool to manage donor relationships
      1. Insist on staff updating donor records regularly to maximize work with donors
      2. Based on DP data develop master strategies for all donor groups (i.e., Exec. Major, etc.)
      3. Use DP to hold all staff and the master strategies accountable
    2. Work with the Executive Director in managing the donor portfolios for all the staff responsible for engaging executive, major, and mid-level donors
    3. Lead the staff in identifying and researching current and potential donors
    4. Proactively reach out to current and potential donors with phone calls, meetings and tours to cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of over 100 to 150 major donors
    5. Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects
    6. Participate in activities and events within the community as a representative of the ministry to enhance the organization’s community profile
 
  1. Manage and develop team members (staff and volunteers) who will directly develop and grow relationships with existing and prospective major, mid-level and general donors in order to exceed goals and forward the mission of Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries
    1. Train and mentor development staff and communicate fundraising goals and progress
    2. Manage staff to ensure proactive outreach to current and potential major and mid-level donors with phone calls, meetings and tours to cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of over 150 donors
    3. Manage staff to ensure proactive outreach to current and potential general donors with phone calls, emails, and events as appropriate to cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of over 1,000 general donors
    4. Oversee the recruiting, training and managing of the Executive Advancement Council
 
  1. Manage the Project and Event Administrator to plan, manage and implement fundraising events and initiatives throughout the year including the annual Vision Dinner to achieve fundraising goals.
    1. Manage the team member who will oversee the creation and organization of special events in an effort to forward the mission of HCDBM and raise funds.
    2. Manage the team member who will develop volunteers to lead and support the department’s efforts while encouraging their spiritual growth
    3. Through volunteers, your direct outreach and your team’s outreach solicit and secure underwriter(s) for events including but not limited to the annual Vision Dinner to exceed current and future underwriter funding goal(s).
    4. Oversee the requests of outside groups who ask to raise funds for HCDBM with an eye to minimizing the impact on HCDBM staff
 
  1. Work with the Executive Director and the Grant Manager in support of the grant process, requirements and implementation.
Minimum Requirements:
Initiative with an entrepreneurial work style
4-5 years of fundraising or sales experience                         
Persistence & tenacity with a teachable spirit
2-3 years management experience
Confidence in representing Christian mission and vision
Operate and communicate at a high level with a development mindset
