Engineering Intern

OW Lee is a premier manufacturer of luxury outdoor furniture and fire pits. We are looking for an intern in our engineering department. This onsite internship will work at the manufacturing facility in Comfort, TX, supporting OW Lee's process improvement projects that will impact the business and operations. The intern will assist in studying existing processes and be responsible for data collection and data entry to help increase efficiency and productivity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Observe workers in various departments, such fabrication, finishing, assembly, etc., completing their tasks, using a video camera
  • Document all data, including time, date, worker, and task.
  • Using a spreadsheet or template, input your collected data.
  • Collaborate with department managers and department leads and interview workers to obtain data and understand the various processes and tasks
  • Assist in identifying and resolving issues and problems
  • Analyze data and prepare report to present findings and recommendations to management.
  • Complete assigned tasks and work required hours to fulfill OW Lee objectives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be classified as a Sophomore, with a strong GPA, in Business, Engineering or related major
  • Understanding of lean principles and manufacturing processes helpful
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Computer skills; be proficient in MS Office - Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint & Word
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Time management and critical thinking skills
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision
  • Must be capable of working on a manufacturing floor in potentially warm conditions
  • Must be willing to work during manufacturing floor production hours, which are between 4:30 am and 3:00 pm.
 

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: College Sophomore, with a strong GPA, in Business, Engineering or related major

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles from welding & grinding operations.
