Kendall County residents are increasingly receiving homeowners insurance non-renewal notices due to wildfire risk. At the same time, approximately 94% of new development in Kendall County is occurring in the wildland-urban interface (WUI)—where homes and development intermingle with wildland vegetation and wildfire risk is greatest.

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) has developed its Wildfire Prepared Home™ and Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood™ programs to significantly reduce the vulnerability of homes and communities to wildfire. Currently, State Farm is offering some policyholders facing non-renewal an opportunity for reconsideration if their homes achieve an IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home designation.

But here's the opportunity: It is far easier to design and build wildfire resilience into a home from the beginning than to retrofit it later.

That's why the Hill Country Fire Coalition of Texas is offering a FREE Wildfire Prepared Home Workshop on:

We have brought representatives from the International Code Council (ICC) and IBHS to Kendall County to help us understand what can be done. Now we need the professionals who design, build, develop, sell, insure, and support our homes and communities at the table to answer the bigger question:

Our goal is to develop a roadmap toward a more fire-resilient Kendall County—one where our homes and communities are better prepared so that when wildfire occurs, we can protect lives and minimize property loss.
