But what do we do when faced with one of these networking opportunities?  We stand around in groups with people we already know or we pass out dozens of business cards to complete strangers. And, often we talk non-stop AT people telling them all about what we have to offer without first finding out what they need. Sometimes we go and stand by the food, too shy to introduce ourselves to people we don’t know.
 
The word “networking” carries many connotations, most of them outdated and impractical.  We don’t want to talk about “networking” anymore. We want to talk about NETWORKING.
 
NETWORKING is getting to know each other first. It is relationship building. It’s a two-way conversation. It’s NETWORKING on purpose.
