When I ran with them I would think\, "Why not make a 5k out of this?" That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k\, and we've been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years\, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors\, racers\, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 350 runners and this year we are planning to host 500+ runners. Since 2019\, $25\,500 has been donated to the VFW and Boerne Fire Department. We were able to give a scholarship for $2\,500 to a high school senior last year that went toward tuition at TEEX fire school. This year\, the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to help with the purchase of a Wildland Paramedic Unit - UTV and another scholarship for next year's senior class. These items are not always able to be paid in the department's budget.
